Miriam Williams, A True Leader in the Mt. Vernon Community

Miriam Williams ,Douglas Everton Williams (D.E.W.) Organization

Every first Friday of the month, approximately one hundred teenagers meet for their monthly teen summit at the Heights Congregational Church, 258 South Columbus Ave, Mount Vernon, NY.

The monthly  summit is hosted by The Douglas Everett Williams Organization, founded by Miriam Williams and residents of Mt Vernon, after the tragic murder of her son and the unfounded labeling as a gang member by city officials. 

 Ms. Williams has turned her pain into purpose; bringing the youth of Mt. Vernon together to communicate and resolve problems as a community.                                  

What is so unique about the summit is that Ms Williams receives NO  help from Mt Vernon City Government. She has taken on the cause to make the community of Mt. Vernon a better place to live for our youth.

These children have seen other kids their age lose their lives for no reason. Cities like Mt. Vernon  in Westchester has been ravished with killings. Youth live in fear of being shot, shot at or killed just going to the store, coming home from school, or playing in the park. 

As you look in these young kids eyes, you see no hope in the institutions of Mt. Vernon but they have hope in Miriam Williams and Pastor Cohen to be there for them.
